Who is Pro Life?
The following is drawn from the
statements of three Presidential Candidates from
the Republican, Democrat and Constitution Parties
By Pastor David Whitney.
Of all the issues being discussed
in the rampup to the November election, I believe
none are more critical than the issue of abortion.
The Declaration of Independence states the truth
that we are given by God unalienable rights, the
very first of which is the right to life.
If you do not have life, then you
cannot possible enjoy any of your other God given
rights. A government that will not defend the right
to life of the most innocent and helpless in its
midst is a government, I believe, that has lost
its legitimacy to govern. After all what is the
purpose of government? According to our Founding
Father’s as they wrote in the Declaration,
the purpose of civil government was to secure our
God given rights. Therefore if a gov ernment refuses
to defend the first God given right to life, the
Declaration concludes that this government should
be altered or abolished. The Declaration of Independence,
the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are still
the organic, fundamental and supreme law of the
land. Any law written, any judicial opinion given,
any executive order is invalid if it violates the
organic, fundamental and supreme law of the land.
In light of these facts, in this
coming election this issue above all others reveals
the essence of each candidate. Read the statements
of the following candidates and choose to vote
for the one who will truly uphold the rule of law
in our land.
Michael Peroutka of the Constitution
Party stated in his acceptance speech in Valley
Forge, Pennsylvania on June 25th.
Abortion is also a part of the attack
on the family. Our current President has failed
to lead on this premier moral issue of our time – which
is the systematic slaughter of innocent, defenseless,
unborn children in the womb. For example, he has
approved legislation to send additional scores
of millions of tax dollars to Planned Parenthood
and other groups which promote infanticide. He
has failed to stop the Food and Drug Administration
from authorizing the distribution of RU 486, the
abortion pill which has already been used to snuff
out the lives of thousands of unborn children.
As President, I would do everything
in my power to end the national disgrace of abortion
Starting with a formal acknowledgment of the personhood
of every child from the moment of conception.
Furthermore, I will obey my oath,
and defend the Constitution, by refusing to enforce
the unconstitutional ruling in ROE v. WADE, and
will appoint as U.S. Attorneys, only those who
will ensure that none of America's precious children
are deprived of their unalienable right to life
without due process of law.
As President, I would advocate a
total ban on all abortions and a total ban on any
federal funding of abortions, here or abroad.
Since the first priority of civil
government is to protect innocent life, the defense
of the unborn would be my first priority in office.
From George W. Bush’s website
we find the following: “
As we seek to improve human life,
we must always preserve human dignity.”
President Bush is committed to leading
our Nation toward a culture that values life the
life of the elderly and sick, the life of the young,
and the life of the unborn. To promote a culture
of life, the President has signed into law the
Born Alive Infants Protection Act, the Unborn Victims
of Violence Act, the Partial Birth Abortion Ban
Act, and the Adoption Promotion Act of 2003. He
has also reinstated the Mexico City Policy to end
Federal funding of international organizations
that promote abortion. In his second term, President
Bush will: Defend the PartialBirth Abortion Ban
President Bush will vigorously defend the Federal
law banning the violent and brutal practice of
partial birth abortion. Prevent Federal Funding
for Abortion President Bush will continue to enforce
restrictions that prevent the expenditure of Federal
funds to support or promote abortion.
Support Parental Notification President
Bush supports the right of parents to be involved
in the decisions of their minor daughters.
Emphasize Abstinence Education President
Bush will develop researchbased bestpractices education
curricula; will increase funding for abstinenceonly
education; and will work with faith and community
groups to encourage parents and children to communicate
about these issues.
Prevent Human Cloning President
Bush will work to pass a law banning all human
cloning.
Support Ethical Stem Cell Research
President Bush, the first President to provide
Federal funding for human embryonic stem cell research,
will continue to explore the potential of adult
and embryonic stem cell research without encouraging
the further destruction of human embryos.
From John Kerry’s website
we find the following: (editors note; Kerry doesn’t
use the word abortion, but rather the word choice
and a right to choose) In America, women should
be able to go as far as their talents will take
them. But today, women are witnessing an unprecedented
erosion of their basic rights. Over the last three
years, they've seen attempts to block access to
contraceptives, gag doctors from even mentioning
abortion to their patients, freeze funding for
family planning across the world, take away their
constitutional right to choose, and ban medical
procedures even when a woman's health is at stake.
John Kerry has been a champion of women's issues.
He and John Edwards will commit to helping women
balance work and family, expand college opportunities,
protect their health and their constitutional right
to choose, John Kerry was an original cosponsor
of the Women's Health Equity Act, which ensures
women's access to the highest quality and most
advanced health care available. As president, John
Kerry will increase funding for breast and cervical
cancer research and treatment, require insurance
plans to cover contraception and fight for a meaningful
Patients' Bill of Rights to guarantee women direct
access to their OB/GYNs. And John Kerry will only
nominate individuals to the federal bench whose
records demonstrate a respect for the full range
of constitutional rights, including the right to
privacy and the right to choose.
